GARDEN PARTY IN TURQUOISE

What do you wear to an afternoon garden party? The dress code was "Hawaiian Casual".
On my plan I had a maxi dress, being casual, stylish and very appropriate for an outdoor event in summer - but unfortunately the ordered dress didn't fit at all... not even my fabulous seamstress was able to help out this time.

Glad I found this turquoise boho style tunic in the back of my closet! I added a whole lot of arm candy in various hues of blue. The more the better for such an occasion ;-)

My tips:
1: Don't wear stilettos to a garden party - you will ruin them walking on the lawn
2: Take a shoulder bag instead of a clutch - easier while standing and eating
3: Don't forget sun protection
... and don't forget to drink enough water!

Was würdet Ihr zu einer Gartenparty am Nachmittag tragen? Der Dresscode war "Hawaiian Casual" und ich hatte mir extra ein Maxikleid bestellt - lässig und gleichzeitig stylisch und damit genau das richtige für diesen Anlass. Dachte ich... aber leider passte es überhaupt nicht! Oben zu eng, um die Hüften zu ausladend und viel zu lang... nicht mal meine tolle Schneiderin hätte hier etwas ausrichten können.

Ich hatte in den Tiefen meines Kleiderschranks zum Glück noch diese Tunika, die ich höchstens einmal getragen hatte. Dazu Armbänder in verschiedenen Türkis- und Blautönen, für so einen Anlass kann man ruhig mal etwas dicker auftragen!

Meine Tips:
1: Keine Pfennigabsätze, da Gefahr im Rasen einzusinken und die Absätze zu ruinieren
2: Lieber eine Schultertasche als eine Clutch - einfacher beim Essen im Stehen
3: Sonnencreme nicht vergessen
... und genug Wasser zwischendurch trinken!

DREAMING OF A BURGUNDY HANDBAG

Going through my regular blogs, I stopped by at Veronica's Bittersweet Colours and immediately fell in love with her new burgundy Phillip Lim 31-hour bag. Isn't that an amazing bag and colour? Unfortunately it is a bit above my budget but if there is anyone out there thinking about a Birthday- oder Christmas gift... just kidding ;-)

My purple shift dress is only a bit lighter but my vintage bag which I bought in Italy many years ago is probably exactly the same hue as the designer bag. I love Ann Taylor, their dresses are just my style. My Italian baldinini pumps are certainly the most expensive shoes I own but I got them for incredible 12€ on ebay!

Your incredible feedback and cooperation during only six months into blogging inspires me day by day and I think it is time to give you something back.

Auf der Liste der Blogs, die ich regelmäßig lese, steht auch Veronica's Bittersweet Colours und wie der Name schon sagt, zeichnen Farben ihren besonderen Stil aus. In ihre unglaublich schicke Phillip Lim 31-hour bag in Bordeaux habe ich mich sofort verliebt. Stil und Farbe (gibt es auch in tollen anderen Farben und schwarz-weiß) sind einzigartig - der Preis leider auch... nur falls das jetzt jemand liest und über ein Geburtstags- oder Weihnachtsgeschenk nachdenkt ;-)

Mein brombeerfarbenes Ann Taylor Etuikleid ist nur ein bisschen heller und meine Lacktasche, die ich vor vielen Jahren in einer Boutique in Italien gekauft habe, dürfte ziemlich genau der Ton der Designertasche sein. Diese Pumps von baldinini sind mit Sicherheit die teuersten Schuhe, die ich besitze, aber ich habe sie vor ein paar Monaten für ein Schnäppchen von 12€ bei ebay ersteigert :-)

In den letzten sechs Monaten habe ich von Euch ein derart unglaublich positives Feedback erhalten, dass ich denke, es ist an der Zeit, mich dafür zu bedanken.

SUMMER DRESS FOR THE ITALIAN RECEPTION

One of the benefits of working in an international environment are social events like the Italian National Day. We get to know the different traditions, typical specialities and drinks, culture and people.

Italy is certainly known for elegant fashion and style, therefore I wore my new silky Sfera shiftdress and a light blazer as the event took place both inside and in the garden. Paired with peep toes and silver jewellery I felt dressed appropriately for this invitation.

Lovely Italian antipasti, pasta, icecream and a selection of fabulous wine made it a wonderful evening - and for once the weather didn't let us down!

Eine Besonderheit meines internationalen Arbeitsumfeldes sind zahlreiche Veranstaltungen der einzelnen Nationen wie hier der Italienische Nationalfeiertag. So lernen wir alle Länder mit ihren Traditionen, Bräuchen und Spezialitäten von ihrer besten Seite kennen!

Italien ist ja bekannt für seinen eleganten Stil, daher habe ich für diesen Anlass mein neues seidenes Etuikleid von Sfera getragen. Dazu ein kurzer heller Blazer, da die Party zum Teil draußen stattfand. Peeptoes und dezenter Silberschmuck rundeten mein Outfit ab.

Leckere italienische Vorspeisen, Pasta und Eis, sowie toller Wein, dazu endlich schönes Wetter machten den Abend zum Genuss!

SUMMER LOOK IN ORANGE & SILVER

My closet is full of dresses but I only own a couple of skirts, so I thought it was time for a new one. When I discovered the matching cute shortsleeved cardigan I got the perfect ensemble. The originally short length of the skirt made me hesitate for a second but then I immediately thought of my seamstress who did her magic and rearranged the thin layers in order to gain more length.

Tip:

Look for a good seamstress to have your clothes tailored

to your body and personal comfort!

Bright orange and silver accessories make this a nice summer outfit which is also appropriate for the office. Alternatively I'd combine it with black for a more formal, elegant look which I will show you soon.

Finally summer? No way... after our miserable spring weather Germany is suffering from terrible floods after constant rain. These photos were taken before the big rain started. Very slowly it seems getting better here in Bavaria and we certainly deserve a nice and hot summer!

Meine Leserinnen wissen, dass ich absoluter Kleiderfan bin, davon habe ich einen ganzen Schrank voll, aber Röcke nur einige wenige. Als ich diesen leichten Stufenrock mit passendem Jäckchen bei H&M sah, musste ich sofort zugreifen. Leider war er anfangs zu kurz, ich hätte mich damit nicht wohlgefühlt, aber ich dachte sofort an meine ausgezeichnete Schneiderin. Saum war keiner vorhanden, aber sie hat die Stufen versetzt und somit an Länge gewonnen.

Mein Tipp:

Gut sitzende Kleidung ist extrem wichtig und eine gute Schneiderin Gold wert!

Mit orangen und silbernen Accessoires entstand ein leichtes Sommerensemble, das auch sehr gut bürotauglich ist. Ich habe bereits eine andere, edlere Variante mit schwarz im Kopf, die ich Euch hier demnächst vorstellen werde.

Ob der Sommer nach dem ausgefallenen Frühling und dem Hochwasser endlich kommt? Diese Fotos haben wir vor dem großen Regen gemacht. Ganz langsam scheint es hier besser zu werden und wir müssten eigentlich mit einem Supersommer entschädigt werden, oder?

WHAT TO WEAR TO A FORMAL EVENT

Have you been to official events that required a certain dresscode?

A dresscode makes your decision on your clothing easy and difficult at the same time:
:::: Easy because you excatly know what type of attire is expected and what you can certainly rule out as a no-go.
::::: Difficult because you may not be prepared and don't have the requested clothes in your closet - think of evening gowns or cocktail dresses.

I often attend formal events of my organisation and as you already know I enjoy dressing up! Yesterday we had a Change of Command Ceremony with high ranking international military and civilian guests. The dresscode for our military staff was clear: Class A uniform. For us civilians it was "dark suit and tie" and equivalent for the ladies. For official events here in Bavaria also "Tracht" - which means Dirndl - can be worn but we distinguish between an elegant, formal Dirndl often made of silk and a casual Oktoberfest type Dirndl.

But the weather was a lot more challenging than the dress code! With maximum temperatures in the low 40ies, heavy rain and a nasty windchill we really suffered in the open tents. Spring has been extremely cold and wet and that's why my terrace still looks so bare without flowers. These days Bavaria's rivers and roads are flooded and the rain still won't stop... that's probably why my expression on these photos is a bit tense!

Not a light summer dress and open shoes for me but black trousers, a silky blouse and a black blazer plus a colourful silk scarf and a black weatherproofed coat instead. To avoid a too stiff look I added my new ZARA statement necklace and wore my blouse over my trousers.

Habt Ihr hin und wieder Einladungen zu Veranstaltungen mit einem vorgeschriebenen Dresscode?

::::: Einerseits macht es die Kleiderwahl einfacher, denn man weiß genau, was erwartet wird und was man ganz bestimmt nicht anziehen kann.
::::: Andererseits kann es sein, dass man z.B. das vorgeschriebene lange Abendkleid oder Cocktailkleid gar nicht in seinem Kleiderschrank hat.

Ich besuche immer wieder Events mit entsprechender Kleiderordnung und wie meine regelmäßigen Leserinnen wissen, mag ich das auch sehr gern! Gestern hatten wir Kommandowechsel mit hochrangigen internationalen Gästen aus dem militärischen und zivilen Bereich. Für meine Militärkollegen war es einfach: "Erste Geige", also beste Uniform, für uns Zivilisten bedeutet es dunkler Anzug und Krawatte bzw. Hosenanzug oder Kostüm. Übrigens kann man bei uns in Bayern auch immer Tracht tragen.

Viel schwieriger als der Dresscode war allerdings das Wetter! Bei 7C, starkem Regen und kaltem Wind haben wir in den offenen Zelten richtig gefroren. Daher sieht meine Terrasse übrigens dieses Jahr ohne Blumen noch so kahl aus. Dauerregen und Überschwemmungen machen uns sehr zu schaffen, ich glaube, das sieht man an meinem etwas angespannten Gesichtsausdruck...!

Für mich schieden deshalb leider mein geplantes Seidenkleid mit Blazer und Pumps aus. Stattdessen schwarze Satinhose, Blazer und feine Bluse, darüber ein wetterfester schwarzer Mantel und ein Seidentuch. Damit mein Look nicht zu steif aussah, habe ich meine Bluse über der Hose getragen und als Accessoire meine neue ZARA Kette gewählt.
